viJournal M Support
FAQs
I'm getting a lot of Low Memory warnings. What can I do? viJournal M manages memory very efficiently. But it is a fairly complex application with a lot of nested screens. Combined with the fact that the OS allows 3rd party apps a fairly small memory footprint, this can result in Low Memory situations.
If you get a low memory warning, it's best to quit and restart viJournal M, to clear its memory.
To reduce the number of warnings, the best thing you can do is periodically power off your iPhone (hold down the sleep button until the Power Off slider appears, then slide it) to free locked-up memory. This is especially important if you play a lot of graphics-intensive games.
Meanwhile, work is going on to improve viJournal M's memory efficiency.
Why are my photos mangled when I send them in an email? There seems to be a problem with some email servers corrupting the image data. It appears to be the incoming rather than the outgoing server that does this. The issue is currently being investigated. In the meantime, if you have more than one email account, try sending to one which uses a different server.
I can't find the button to sync my entries with viJournal. You need the Action button (that's the one with the little arrow coming out of a box) at the bottom of the Journals screen.
When I sync with viJournal, no entries are sent back to viJournal M. This might be a firewall issue. On your Mac, go to the Security section of System Preferences, and ensure that your firewall isn't configured to block incomining connections.
Syncing with the Mac version doesn't work! Please check: 1. If your Mac's firewall is switched on, you need to set it to allow incoming connections to viJournal. 2. When syncing, the Mac OS sometimes puts up dialogs asking you to confirm permission for an incoming connection or to access your keychain. These dialogs can get hidden by viJournal's windows. If syncing seems to be "hanging", check for hidden dialogs.
When I sync, some entries that I've updated are missed out. The first thing to check is that your mobile devices and your Mac are showing exactly the same date and time. For reasons known only to Apple, various models of iPhone, iPad and iPod differ in the way they keep time, and they aren't necessarily kept automatically in sync with each other or with your Mac. If you let them wander out of time with each other, viJournal may have difficulty keeping track of which entries need to be updated during a sync.
I don't seem to be able to set a "Sync Target" in viJournal. The Sync functions in the Journal menu of viJournal are for syncing between installations of viJournal on networked computers. They don't have anything to do with viJournal M. All the settings for Mac-iPhone sync are set in the Devices section of viJournal Preferences and the Security screen of viJournal M.
How do I get back to the Entries screen when I'm in landscape mode? You need to rotate back to portrait mode to expose the button. To save screen space, the navigation bar is hidden in landscape mode (except when you're editing, when it has to be displayed for the Save/Cancel buttons).
Some months are missing from the index list at the right of the Entries screen. This is to prevent the index becoming cluttered (and therefore unreadable) if your entries cover a lot of months. This filtering takes effect at 26 months, which is about the maximum number of readable items the index can contain.
Why does viJournal M sometimes not ask for my passcode when I open it? You have the Neutral Interval set. You can switch it off in viJournal M's Security Settings.
I can't remember my passcode. What can I do to get access to my journals? There is nothing you can do. That's the point of passcode security - that nobody who doesn't have the passcode can gain access to your journals. To continue using viJournal M, you will need to delete it and re-install it. This will cause your journals and entries to be deleted.
